As soon as Martie Sullivan moved Sweet Basil to a larger space she fulfilled another dream: cooking classes for Kids & Teen. And not just “kids-easy” dishes but the real deal. (See some sample classes below.) The TV cooking shows were gaining followers of all ages. Martie wanted to offer them a serious and fun environment with professional chefs teaching them to emulate their TV heroes.

Sweet Basil has classes for Kids & Teen scheduled throughout the year. In addition, we are well known for our Summer Cook Camps!! Classes are also scheduled on Saturdays during the school year and extra classes during vacation periods. Parent Kids & Teen classes are also popular. Check out some of our upcoming classes below.

KIDS MAKE PASTA

This class gives kids an introduction to making Pasta from scratch and the opportunity to learn to make favorite Pasta dishes they like to eat all the time. If your child is 8 or above, this class will teach how to make dinner! Kids will make Home Made Mac & Cheese with Cheesy Broccoli; Spaghetti & Meatballs with Garlic Bread; Chicken Fettuccine with Home Made Caesar Salad; Sloppy Joe Pasta, and Chocolate Nutella Spaghetti.

Kids Cook After School

This four-week series for kids ages 8 to 12 offers fun, kid-friendly lessons with a focus on the fundamentals of cooking. Classes begin with a discussion of the recipes, then students head to the kitchen for a hands-on lesson to prepare the recipes and create a meal they will eat. Our fun lessons include Week 1 – Sauté, Roast, and Sauces: Sautéed fresh Vegetables with fresh Basil Pesto; Cola BBQ Sauce over Sautéed Chicken; Roasted fresh Pear Salad with Baby Spinach & Toasted Walnuts; Oven Roasted Salmon with Brown Butter Sauce, and Cinnamon & Sugar Sautéed Apples over Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream with Caramel Sauce. Week 2 – Stir-fry Dinners: Beef & Broccoli Stir-fry over Rice; Stir-fry Vegetables over noodles; Lemon-Chicken Stir Fry; Stir-fry Vegetable Eggrolls with Dipping Sauce, and Sweet & Sour Pork Stir- fry. Kids Make Desserts

If your child (aged 8 or above) is interested in baking, this class will teach valuable basics in the baking process. Students will learn recipes that will be fun to make again and again at home. If you like to cook and are between the ages of 8 and 12 this series offers a week of cooking lessons that are fun to learn and make yummy foods! Learn to make them so you can cook them for your family and friends! Our lesson is MONDAY – PIZZA DAY! Roasted Chicken Pizza with Cherry Tomatoes; Three Cheese Pizza with Tomato Sauce; oven Roasted Potato Pizza; Bacon & Tomato Pizza, Homemade Meatball Pizza Pepperoni & Cheese Homemade Pizza, and S’mores Dessert Pizza. This week-long series is for people ages 13 to 17 who like to cook and want to learn more about all areas of cooking. Each day is focused on a new subject. Students will work hands-on in the kitchen on the recipe of their choice. Sign up to learn MONDAY – BREAKFAST – START TO FINISH: How to Cook Eggs; Pancakes and Waffles; Breakfast Potatoes; Huevos Rancheros; Continental Breakfast, and Yogurt Parfaits. TUESDAY – QUICK AND EASY ITALIAN: Italian Sauces and Gravies; Lasagna 101 Italian Pizza; Cannoli, and quick & easy Pasta Dishes. WEDNESDAY – SUMMER GRILLING: Hamburgers & Hot Dogs with all the fixings; Baked Potato Bar; Southern BBQ with Ribs and Wings; BBQ Chicken with Macaroni Salad; Coleslaw, Macaroni & Cheese.
